I agree! I also hate the "only ever truly loved one person, everyone else means nothing" trope for this reason! Your romantic partner can't and shouldn't be your whole world.

Worst canon version of this was in Fringe, where (due to universe merging shenanigans) Olivia gives up her memories of her sister and niece and other important people just to be in love with Peter and is happy about it. Urgh.
