To me it depends entirely on the characters and the dynamics of the particular ship. Like, a ship with a female character who has basically been forced into living life a certain way/a role/following someone's footsteps or has been treated badly by the people around her and she finds a partner who cares about her and wants what's best for HER and wants to keep everyone else from trying to meddle in her life?
