A recent thing my part of the fandom has been whinging about is people posting their fanfic pet peeves and how it discourages writers and is rude. Even when you don’t mention any specific fics. I roll my eyes every time someone says that. We can talk about personal things we hate.

I completely get that it can be discouraging. When you like and/or make some specific type of thing, it can be unpleasant to hear that people hate it, especially if it feels like a repetitive complaint. And people do tend to complain about what they hate a lot more than they celebrate what they love.

But I also agree with you that you've got to let people vent about that kind of thing. Preventing those comments is exactly where I start to feel "toxic positivity" pressing in.

I think it helps a lot when the platform allows people to tag their complaints and people who don't want to see that can just scroll by.
