I don't consider myself much of a fan of Bruce Springsteen but listening to "Waitin' On a Sunny Day" is making me ugly cry

Floatheadphysics could literally explain the secrets of the universe, and I'd still be too annoyed to watch his videos, because his talking style of putting words into the mouths of other people irritates me so much.

Great scientific explanations, but fuck dude, why does he talk like that? Urgh, it's like nails on chalkboard to me.

As soon as a content creator gets openly religious, I drop them. Casual cultural stuff like "bless you" or whatever I can ignore, jokingly thanking their deity/deities of choice I can ignore, mentioning they are something in their private life is debatable depending on what it is and how serious they sound, but being an outright, straightforward believer on camera? Genuinely saying they think some deity helped them or interfered with their lives and is totally real? Nope nope nope unsub unfollow quit patreon block

A recent thing my part of the fandom has been whinging about is people posting their fanfic pet peeves and how it discourages writers and is rude. Even when you don’t mention any specific fics. I roll my eyes every time someone says that. We can talk about personal things we hate.

I tell people that I will read their fanfics... but then I never do... their writing styles and/or the subject matter of their fics just really don't appeal to me. But I keep writing my own fanfics and sharing them and they read them. I just feel bad I don't really want to return the favor.

There are people whose fics I do read-- people whose style I DO vibe with, sometimes people who I might not read if we were both in a big fandom but appreciate because they're the only other writer for a small one... but oh man, I felt so bad recently about someone whose fic I just could NOT read.

They said REALLY nice things about a fic I'm still really proud of my work on for a fandom I left (that is, I stopped watching the show however many seasons back)... and they linked me to a thing they wrote that for a variety of reasons I knew I could not read-- fandom and ship reasons, not quality of writing reasons! But I had really wanted to be able to.

Epstein files

What do you all think? Is anyone going to be punished? Is anyone going to look for bodies?

I wish I could find out what was really going on. The emails have a lot of stuff redacted and aren't always straightforward. I see people saying wild stuff - claiming they were eating milk from babies' intestines and calling it cream cheese? Some of it seems like it's probably peoples' interpretations? I do think people were doing some awful stuff, but I don't want to get sucked into some anti-Trump equivalent of Pizzagate, as much as I hate this administration.

No one will be punished until this administration is gone. Then, maybe, we might see a few people go to trial.

I completely get that it can be discouraging. When you like and/or make some specific type of thing, it can be unpleasant to hear that people hate it, especially if it feels like a repetitive complaint. And people do tend to complain about what they hate a lot more than they celebrate what they love.

But I also agree with you that you've got to let people vent about that kind of thing. Preventing those comments is exactly where I start to feel "toxic positivity" pressing in.

I think it helps a lot when the platform allows people to tag their complaints and people who don't want to see that can just scroll by.

Me too.

And it's not a thing I'd admit to more widely, but on FS I can confess that simply finding out a creator is religious changes my opinion on them. I do try to resist that bias in myself and sometimes it works, especially if they're usually quiet about it.

Same

I honestly find this a little weird. Religious views, regardless of what they are, don't bother me until they start taking over the creator's content or unless they are the type of religious views that come with things like racism or thinking everyone who doesn't agree with your views is going to hell or something like that.

I'm not weirded out by religious views any more than I'm weirded out by any views or beliefs different than mine. I only start caring when it becomes something that is harmful to others.

I think anyone who could 'punish' them or make these people face consequences/the law is within the circle so nothing will be done. It's corrupt all the way down.

I think it's clear that very powerful and rich people have been exploiting children, and I hope they will be punished. A lot is going to depend on the midterms in November, and the Fanta Menace is already trying to set things up to rig that election so his guys win.
