TBH there isn't really anything wrong with Secret OP not reading others' fics, but I get why it can bring up guilt or some sort of bad feeling.

When I read and wrote a lot, I felt obligated to read and share almost every fic that was rec'd to me. And honestly, after a while I just couldn't keep up with it all. The worst part was all of that drained a lot of energy from me that I would constantly lose motivation to write my own fics.
And it was a nasty cycle of feeling bad I wasn't reading fics rec'd by friends followed by feeling bad I wasn't writing and cycle it all over again.

I've taken a long break from writing fics, but I learned that if I read or write for a specific ship or fandom, I'm best only doing one, not both. Mostly because I burn myself out.
