Obsessiveness amnd enthusiasm do not equal Fandom.

But I'm happy you enjoy your fancy cup.

What, do people have to write smutty fics about Stanley cups for it to count?

('Cause seriously, obsessiveness and enthusiasm is fandom's breath and bread.)

I wouldn't be surprised to see it

For me, being in a fandom is about three things:
1. Intent – deliberately setting out to share your experiences with other fans; being part of a fan collective
2. Attachment – forming some emotional connection to that something beyond just the initial enjoyment of consuming it
3. Action – engaging with that something outside the initial watching/listening/reading/playing/buying of that something in any way

And I feel like they are meeting all three of those things if they are dressing them the fuck up and sharing that with others. Maybe not your typical fandom, but not the weirdest out there.

There are knitting patterns for Stanley cups to make wraps for your travel mug. Istg if there’s craft patterns for something, it’s a fandom.

There are knitting patterns to make wraps for everything from soda cans to fire hydrants. That's just knitting fandom.
