Figure skating gripe

This is probably gonna seem petty, but whatever: I feel like Mrazkova and Mrazek should have had points deducted from their rhythm dance for starting their medley with an AI-generated song. Not even really because it's AI, but because it's not a '90s song, which was the assignment. The fact that it was approximating AC/DC doesn't change the fact that it wasn't actually AC/DC.

And yes, it was followed by a remix of 'Thunderstruck,' and that's fine. But what's the point of having a music theme if people can flout it? Hold them to it!

Isn’t it because the licensing is nearly impossible for the skaters to get permission? I don’t mean just AC/DC but pretty much any recording artist.

That wouldn't explain them also using 'Thunderstruck.' And none of the other skaters have used AI so far. Amber Glenn apparently didn't get proper permission for one of her songs, but everyone else seems to have managed just fine.

I didn’t see it so my question is genuine: was the AI Thunderstruck or was it something else? Because licensing isn’t straightforward; you can get the rights to Thunderstruck but might not be able to get them to If You Want Blood (yeah, I know that isn’t one of their 90s songs, just throwing out an example).

The Amber Glenn music is a fascinating story because the only way she was exposed was by the rights holder hearing the music in a clip that got shared online. And there’s every reason to believe she thought she had permission because of the very convoluted way some of the third parties do things.

Tbh I’d say deduct points just for using AI in general. I think it doesn’t belong in the Olympics and is counter to the ethos. But the real ethos is money so the committee is always going to do whatever profits them the most. Like make the medals so cheaply they break and fall off the ribbons despite being nearly wafer thin.
