Seriously. I have a friend who is very happily married NOW, but that doesn't erase the fact that her ex cheated on her while they were engaged. You don't just magically forget that kind of thing once you get into a good relationship.

I don't know, if your friend spends more time talking to you about how her ex cheated on her years ago than about what she and her spouse are up to now, she may be less happily married than you think.

Nayrt but I'll go out on a limb and say that friend doesn't make money by talking about her cheating ex.

nayrt

True, but at the same time, I wouldn’t consider someone’s artistic output to be an accurate representation of what they think or talk about most often.

If she made money off of it I would expect her to talk about it more than normal, because something like that changes things. Also there are plenty of goddamn artists who make songs about their exes or breakups, this is not a new genre at all.

Also, let's be real: songs about happy relationships are boring. Songs about relationships that have ended/ended badly tend to be way more interesting just in terms of the lyrics and the sentiments expressed in them.

No, they're not. There wouldn't be 70 or so years of happy love songs charting if that were the case.
