Yeah, there are definitely reasons to dislike a public figure, but "sings songs about things they have experience with" doesn't make sense to me. One complaint I hear sometimes is singing songs about being lonely when you have "all these fans". The upset doesn't go away just because you're successful. And one's audience can relate to it too, as you said, translating to money.

Takes time to move on from something. There's a ship I really hate because I got harassed by its fans, and they sometimes mistag and post bashing fanart to elevate their own pairing. I've moved away from spaces where I'm likely to run into that, and found a space where people are supportive of the pairing I got harassed over, but I still dislike that one ship.

I say this as someone who liked Swift's 1989 album when I was younger, and stopped really caring when I got older. I don't usually look into artists' personal lives myself (don't know a thing about AJR, Linkin Park, or Twenty One Pilots, my current favorite artists). (Commenting this signed in so I'm not accused of being one of those unhinged parasocial anons lol. Mostly only posted this because I was annoyed by how the other comment threads got derailed.)
