My area of America has long abandoned the 2021 wisdom of "stay home if you're sick," recently abandoned the 2024 etiquette of "wear a mask if you MUST show up," and as of 2026 has fully reverted to the 2019 ethos of "covering your loud, hacking, phlegmy wet coughs is optional."

And it's making me feel homicidal.

Not just America. I wear a mask at work (in healthcare) for exactly this reason and people ask, "Why are you [COUGH HACK SPLUTTER SNEEZE] wearing that? Also my whole family has had explosive diarrhea for a week, let me touch your hand."

Yeah I fucking hate it. And I get a lot of long stares or side eyes because I wear a face mask when possible.
