My friend is like this. She also has a problem with branching AUs, like the "everybody lives" or "that canon choice was dumb so I'm going to ignore it" type. Not always, but usually. She says it is the same thing OP describes, like her brain is just closed the door on an option and it is done.

I am the complete opposite so we have fun talking about it.
