I find it a little silly to pretend that Harry Potter was a book series no one "really" liked or should want to revisit. The series was very popular, and many of us would still be into the books and fanfic were it not for JKR ruining the magic.

That's what ruined it. Not JKR. We got the enjoyment shamed right out of us.

There was plenty of pushback and bashing in the aughts, from "Christians" and snobs, and that didn't kill it.

If you're being shamed now, it's because you're failing to read the room.

Are you saying that those making the moral judgements now are equally ridiculous?

Eeeehhhh...I'd already felt like I'd outgrown HP before "JKR is a TERF" became a big deal in the fandom. I mostly dragged my feet leaving the fandom because my friends were finally into HP and I was happy for my IRL friends finding joy in HP like I did.

Same. Well, not that I had friends finally getting into HP, I just gradually lost interest after the final movies were released.
