Food you do "wrong"

(Anonymous) 2026-02-21 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Do you have any food or dish that you intentionally prepare in the "wrong" way? What is it and how are you doing it wrong?

I intentionally add cream to Carbonara. I like it more saucy but don't like it if the taste is too eggy.

I also like to overcook salmon.

I leave out garlic amd onion from most dishes because they give me horrible GI reactions. This horrifies people because they are weird about garlic.

I also skip sauce and instead put ketchup on pasta sometimes. I just like it.

Saaame. I cook and buy food without onions and mostly without garlic. Because onions are instant acid reflux for me.
According to some people I am committing blasphemy

This is why I try not to judge people for their food preferences. You never know why someone's diet is different than your own. It's not always about "flavor" or somehow being a "better" person because of the food you eat.

I also hate how people turn food preferences into a topic for debate. Like, no, I hate bitter melons because the bitterness doesn't taste good to me. Please stop telling me I'll "get used to it and learn to love it".
No, I don't eat anything with avocados in them because I'm allergic. Yes, I’ve eaten multiple times, had it served multiple ways, and my throat felt tight/I got headaches every time I ate it. And it's simply not worth the risk to keep trying to it eat it because everyone just looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooves avocados (and it's so healthy!).
Yeah, no amount of popularity a food gains will lower my body's intolerance to it.
Please don't offer health/allergy advice if I don't fucking ask. Good for you, but avoiding foods I don't like has served me fine in terms of inconvenience and affordability over investing time to see medical professionals to try to "fix" this.

Like, fuck dude, it's food. Why does everyone walk into comments with switchblades when someone has an opinion on food?

Same with spicy food. Some people make low tolerance to spicy food out to be some weird sort of moral failings and clearly you are some mayo-chugging white bread basic white person who has no taste if you don't like or can't eat spicy food. It's so bizarre.

DA

This is the one that gets me. I'm allergic to capsaicin. But yes, please, tell me all about how I'm a basic white bitch who needs to expand my pallet otherwise I'm a racist Karen.

Ahhhhh SSAAAAAAAAAAAAAMME

I get SO frustrated with how some people act about food preferences. I am a picky eater, probably partially due to autism, so I am 100% accepting of other peoples' food preferences, because I get it. I will not judge you no matter what/how you eat.

This goes even more so when it's an online discussion, or a discussion amongst coworkers, and you're not going out to eat with these people. Like, I get that it can be frustrating if someone only eats dinosaur chicken nuggets and you're trying to go to a restaurant and you're extremely limited in where you can go. But talking to randos on the internet? Why get so fucking MAD if those randos don't agree with you about food?? Why do you care that much????

The fact that people want to argue about you not eating things that you are intolerant or even allergic to is insane. Like, yeah, I should go ahead and eat the thing that gives me a headache/diarrhea, why the fuck wouldn't I want to deal with that so I can have onions or avocados or whatever?? And often allergies get WORSE with repeated exposure, so sure, I should keep on having more and more of it to see if I can push it from a mild allergy into a serious problem! That sounds like FUN!

And then just preferences. Sometimes, there is nothing to debate there. If you don't like bitter melons, you don't fucking like bitter melons, and that's the end of the fucking story.

I like pizza with pineapple and anchovies, and black olives, on it. I think it is the perfect blend of sweet, salty, and umami. I'll even add canned sweetcorn (or better yet, those little baby corn on the cob things) too.

I don't see the problem.

I don't puree when I make butternut squash soup, if that counts. I don't care, because don't mind the texture.
