Reading Medalist made me so much more appreciative of ice dance and step sequences in general during these most recent Winter Games. As a lay person I used to only care about the jumps.

B!S I get the level of difficulty wasn't enough to win Gold or Silver, but Gilles and Porier's Starry Night skate was one of the most beautiful things I've ever watched.

Same. I love Medalist.

And oh boy, Anon, you must have loved Alysa Liu's performance this past week.

Hell yeah I did! I don't know if we'll ever again see someone on the ice who truly gives no fucks about winning and so floats the way she does.

I stopped following figure skating right after Nagano. The focus seemed to be more on jumps and technical ability and artistry (IMO it used to be more of a balance) sort of began to fall by the wayside. I looked up that routine on Youtube and it was nice.

wow damn that's a long time. (I visited Nagano only 3 years ago and the attempts at recalling Olympic glory are...wow, sad)

I don't generally give a flying fuck about figure skating, perhaps because I do know there's a weird fandom centered around it. but I accidentally caught the Khazahk skater winning gold for his free skate, because I saw the words "Diva Dance" on the screen and went "wait is he actually skating to the Diva Dance from Fifth Element??" and yes, yes he did. As skating goes, it was okay, but in music choice good job kid go Khazahkstan.

You should check out his gala skate! It involves a panda costume and kung fu fighting.

I don't watch much ice dancing, but I did happen to see starry night and I can only agree, it was beautiful.
