I want a Mad Max movie set during the nuclear attack itself. The original was set before the bombs fell, the first sequel not long after, I want to see Max surviving the nuclear bombing of Sydney itself. And since I'm asking for the impossible already, lets have it in Real Time too. Ninety minute war, ninety minute movie.

Reading Medalist made me so much more appreciative of ice dance and step sequences in general during these most recent Winter Games. As a lay person I used to only care about the jumps.

B!S I get the level of difficulty wasn't enough to win Gold or Silver, but Gilles and Porier's Starry Night skate was one of the most beautiful things I've ever watched.

I like lighthearted sci-fi adventure novels, but it feels like the only people still writing them are conservative bigots with a military fetish.

I do understand fans that cannot help but take in the negativity that's online about their fandom. I know lots of fandomy people that have to manage their own experience by avoiding places that they wish they could enjoy but can't for whatever reason, and I sympathize with that.

But... I lose that sympathy as soon as they refuse to manage their own experience and whine that it's everyone else's fault that they couldn't stop themselves from engaging with things they dislike over and over again.

Favorite Character archetypes

[personal profile] philstar22 2026-02-22 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
What are your favorite character archetypes? What do you love about them? What are your favorite versions of those archetypes? Are there any versions of your favorite that you actually dislike?

(Anonymous) 2026-02-22 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's funny sometimes. People really love to plant their feet, declare that they're morally right, then do nothing to change their surroundings or their interactions because they shouldn't have to change, everyone else should change for them. When everyone else unsurprisingly fails to change for them, they sit there complaining because they don't know what else to do. The thought of leaving never crosses their minds because by god they were here first and are morally correct!

Sometimes you can be completely right on principle and still have to be the one to adjust how you engage. Demanding people and places change for you is yelling at clouds. That's unfortunately just life.

On one hand I love a good tragic villain or well-intentioned person who got in too deep and went too far, bonus points for if they win a pyrrhic victory at some point.

On the other hand I dislike most characters considered tragic villains because they get too woobified or try too hard to justify what they did. It's hard to get the balance right.

Same. I love Medalist.

And oh boy, Anon, you must have loved Alysa Liu's performance this past week.

Oh man yes. Same with redemption arcs for me. Done right? Amazing. Done in a woobified way that justifies their actions or pretends they weren't ever bad? no thank you.

Characters who have been alone all their lives but still have a heart of gold despite it all (ie Knuckles)

I hate that Golden became the award season frontrunner. What It Sounds like is a better song that showcases everyone's singing better.

Yes! I love a good redemption arc where people DON'T all magically forgive the person and the person has to deal with the fact that you can't undo what's been done, some people will never forgive them, and that will never change. Bonus points if they go into the fact that others will even judge the people DO give them a second chance for giving them one at all, and they're dragging other people into it with them.

It reads to me like it was never meant to be heard it its entirety, because it has no real closure. My favorite is This is What It Sounds Like too, but technically I think it's too much repetition and not enough lyrics to go around for the entire group, not just Rumi.

I think How It's Done is probably the best crafted song overall, but Your Idol and Soda Pop are just so cool. I miss the days when more than one song from each movie got nominated.
