I was searching for scans of some obscure manga/comic i remember reading for free. I googled it and just ran into these sites that show you the pages but if you stay too long the page blanks out and gives some "please pay a months subscription to continue". And the damn site showed up at the top of every search. And then the only other lead i found was a reddit thread where someone else asked where to read it.

And of course all the responses were 'google it' and one was that bitchy ass 'let me Google that for you' link. That again just showed the for pay websites at the top.

Thankfully i remembered the artist/author and that helped me find it.

(I just wanted it for art/style ref)

But still just ughhhh

I found a Firefox extension that lets you blacklist sites from Google searches because there's a crossword clues site that has not worked for quite possibly years now, only saying "An error has occurred, please contact the site owners". Bullshit, man.

The extension is called uBlacklist, for what that's worth.

Like sometimes i think people don't realize someone may be asking because they've already TRIED and didn't come up with anything because maybe the thing has a title that will ping up a dozen other fucking things or they otherwise can't find it.

There's no need to just jump to the assumption they don't know how to use google. Its not even funny anymore.

Google doesn't even work anymore. It's all enshittified.

I’m saying this as gently as I can: this is a skill issue on your part. You should be able to refine your searches or at the very least scroll past the top results. If you don’t know how to use browser extensions do anything from refine search results to block sites to getting around a firewall, that’s a you problem. If you don’t know how to switch results to images, I honestly don’t know why you are even online. This is especially relevant to Reddit where sharing photos in comments is a pain in the ass. You lack digital literacy and are just angry that others are pointing that out.

I’m saying this as gently as I can: Big Tech doesn't love you. It has never loved you and it never will.

Fact: 2026 Google is a bloated pile of garbage that used to be a good search engine. We have every right to be annoyed with enshittification of things that used to be good Internet services. Pull your pants back up and quit waiting for billionaires to pleasure your loyalty hole. They're not coming for you, ever.

That's an awful lot of blame and judgment for someone supposedly being "gentle." Perhaps you have your own skill issue to work on?

I hate that so much too. Often Google doesn't find what you need. Or it pulls threads from Reddit, but the relevant comments have been deleted or transformed into gibberish when the user stopped using their Reddit account. Or, like you said, Reddit posts where the answer given is "Google it" AAAHHHHHHHH

LMGTFY was one of those things that might've been funny in limited situations, but yeah, largely just abused.

But that's only one of the reasons I hate "JUST GOOGLE IT!" to any fucking message where someone is just trying to generate discussion. Shit, you never know, you might find out together that Google has increasingly sucked over the years and maybe you shouldn't rely on one source of information.

I don't know if this will help, anon, but I use Startpage as a Google alternative.
