WHY

(Anonymous) 2026-03-03 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
do they keep re-adapting and remaking things that have already been done. There are already two versions of Pride and Prejudice. Can't we have some NEW stories (or adaptations of things that haven't already been adapted)?

There are way more than two, even! And I was just making this argument to my mom last night (not about this fandom but something similar). Every time a threadbare classic gets a new adaptation it's at the cost of not giving something new and interesting a chance.

P&P is a threadbare classic?

I'd love a modern take on Northanger Abbey, tbh

Don't worry, pretty soon AI is going to churn out some barely Wish-quality slop that we can pay a monthly fee to access so we won't have to worry about specific adaptations!

Of course I'm joking, but I would not be surprised if that happened.

Right? There are even other things by the same author that haven't been adapted, or at least not more than once. Why do they keep going back to this one?

/shrug I hear you, but it's Austen's most well known work and the last adaptation was over two decades ago. P&P is always going to undergo new remakes.
