Yeah, it feels a bit self-indulgent/self-congratulatory to me. Unpopular opinion, but this is what drags down the "Far Beyond the Stars" episode of DS9 slightly for me -- a bit too much back-patting on the part of Star Trek writers to write an episode that's like "this is the importance of writing sci-fi stories i.e. the work we do." I get that it's true (probably tons of fans come up to them and basically say the same thing this episode is saying) and it's a less grating version because it's specifically about writing sci-fi stories featuring black captains, which not many people could get credit for doing, but "a story about the power of storytelling" is always kinda a basic story idea and it feels less brag-y if it comes from someone else rather than someone writing it about their own work.

There's a couple of other "power of storytelling" plots not listed in the secret that stuck out to me as a bit cringe for this reason, but unfortunately I seem to have forgotten them!
