(Anonymous) 2026-03-05 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)He is the architect of not only major events, but the one who defined Dean and Sam's life from before they were born, and outright manipulated them and other villains since the very beginning.
S15 is all about Sam and Dean (and Castiel and Jack, who are the major axis in this battle, basically won only thanks to their contribution) gaining their freedom from a narrative in which they have no control and are merely pawn.
It is the literal iteration of "Death of the Author" and I fucking love it, thematically (the execution is a little bit MEH, like always with SPN). Since God is SPN's writers' avatar, it is the show explicitly telling us "fuck canon and TPTB, everyone can write their own story and that is what makes us free".
Stating "storytelling is powerful yadda yadda" is easy and self-congratulatory, like OP said, pulling a SPN "canon is shit, write your own story" with a sprinkle of "characters are free only outside of a written narrative" takes balls.
as always SPN 15x20 doesn't exist, goddamnit
