I assume everyone in British media is a transphobe until proven otherwise.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-06 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Weird of you.

For all you know, they're trans, or have a trans loved one (who they aren't shitty to).

Entertaining this as an actual secret… Why?

I mean, is this an ethical consumption thing – do you avoid all British products by default because you don’t want to support that by accident and you think the risk is too high?

Is this an “I can’t stand to have my heart broken learning bad things about one of my faves” thing and you’re trying to head off the disappointment of discovering some of them are transphobic?

I don't blanket assume, but with the number of them that are perfectly happy to cozy up to or kiss the asses of certain known transphobes, I don't trust that anyone *isn't*, either-- unless they make their support known.

But why?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Genuinely, why?

The responses to this thread are interesting to me. I wonder if a lot more people would nod along and agree if you'd said you assume sexist until proven otherwise

fwiw I don't even think it's all that weird. Assuming most people are a little sexist or racist or homophobic or transphobic whether or not they realize it, until proven otherwise, sounds practical to me? These are prevalent and conventional views to the point where actors and things that are outspokenly feminist, speak up for minorities, or are openly pro-trans rights are noteworthy still

Now, if you think this of only British media people as opposed to media people in every other country as well, THAT'd be weird!

Oh, yeah, if this is a more general stance on people everywhere and if “being a transphobe” includes having unconscious transphobic bias, that changes my reaction to it.

But the wording heavily implied to me that OP considers the UK a special case in this area.

Weird but you do you.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
That word has lost any and all meaning on this comm.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Seeing this and Secret n6, I don't doubt it.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
People in this comm legit think the adult cast of the HP series are all transphobes for wanting a steady 7-year job.

Like every time I think, "that's it, there's no way they can stretch this word any thinner"... they find a way.

Plot twist:

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The people pushing the transphobe secrets are actual transphobes trying to discredit trans people and their allies, so as to make any accusations of transphobia seem ridiculous and shut down any talk of actual discrimination and danger to transgender folk.

Nah, that's just no true Scotsmanning it. I know you're likely not serious but some groups REALLY need to accept that there are shitty people among them and own it/call them out.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Why British?
Are USA's, Canadian, Chinese, Korean etc not?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
I assume JKR.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
And Graham Linehan, though he's Irish. But he did create some major British shows, so he kind of counts.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT
As much as I dislike JKR, but most of the countries, especially right now, have a lot of shitty views. But it would be a bad faith reading

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
(not OP) Because in most countries, most feminists and leftists are not vile transphobes. In the UK, all the usual suspects PLUS feminists and leftists are putting the boot in.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
But by that standard, US leftist feminists for example are sharia loving woman hating assholes the way they keep protesting in favour of Islamist terrorist regimes.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm Australian and keep getting unpleasant transphobic surprises from British media - often people I otherwise generally agree with - so honestly I can see this as a once (twice, thrice) bitten forever shy thing. I wish I could learn to be more skeptical of anyone vaguely feminist from the UK but no, I keep getting bitten.

Or a paedo. It is at the point where in most British celebs you just scroll down their wikipedia article to the "Childhood Sexual Abuse Allegations" segment. It is nearly always there.
