One of the coldest takes I've seen bandied around social media lately is that "The Man" kept you from learning more about Helen Keller as an adult because she was a Communist. Frankly, this is stupid for multiple reasons, but the biggies are thus: 1. Pretty much every suffragist you learned about in school was also a socialist or a communist. They probably called it "pro-labor" in your textbooks unless your school district was real cool. 2. Helen Keller as an adult was a eugenicist. Like, big time. That's why they don't talk about her as an adult all that much. It's not the communism. It's the "I wasn't born blind and deaf, but if I had been I should have been forcibly sterilized for the good of society"ism.
