Okay. You’re right, it isn’t a rhetorical question because it does expect an answer.

However, the questions still contain information about the questioner’s thoughts and assumptions. The comment presented two possible interpretations of the secret that were explicitly about bitterness. It also left open the possibility that there were other interpretations they hadn’t thought of.

If I asked you to interpret a piece of art and you said it might be about sadness for a lost love or it might be about sadness for a lost child or might be about something else, I think a reasonable observer would understand that you perceived some sadness in it, even if you left room open for other interpretations.

Do with that what you will.

Or the assumption is that secrets tend to be people bitter or disappointed about things so that would be a safe guess and has nothing to do with the state of the mind of the person who doesn’t understand what the secret OP means.

Jesus fucking Christ it’s like an Abbot and Costello sketch in here tonight.

Normalize recognizing when you're wrong, instead of being defensive and insulting because you're embarrassed.

I am not wrong, I’m not insulting, I’m not defensive, and I’m not embarrassed. I’m confused for sure! But so far everyone who has “corrected” me has been wrong.

'I'm ESL'
'every native speaker who is correcting me is wrong'

You have to pick one.

Bruh. When everyone is telling you that your assumptions are showing and that what you assume is not in the text... you're wrong.

You are literally the "Am I out of touch? No, the children are wrong" meme
