It is because you used biterness specifically, which people read to mean you specifically inferred biterness in the secret. If you had left it non specific and asked what the secret was about in an open way nobody would have had a problem.

DA I don't think anyone even had a problem with someone assuming bitterness? Assuming bitterness wasn't the weird part. The insistence that nobody said it sounded bitter was the weird part.

Idk. When like 5 different people are like 'no, that comment definitely sounded like it was assuming bitterness' maybe it came off a way they didn't intend and it's not everyone else who is wrong...

True! I thought they were confused why people were saying it sounded bitter, because they seem to think making it a question negated the bitter part. Or something?

Leaving it non specific would just muddy it though since the secret is already muddy. The secret is quite literally missing the secret part.

Leaving it open would not muddy it. Asking "so what do you mean?" instead of "do you mean you are bitter?" would have been an acceptable option.
