Secret OP is suffering because of comparing their real life to a fantasy. That’s not good. And they seem to think Keith is a realistic father and possibly a very common type. But the interactions that make him such a perfect-for-Veronica father are all narrative choices. Life doesn’t work that way.

Well, yeah, but Veronica is very like Keith in both positive and negative ways. A parent who is similar to their kid and understands and supports them is not particularly way out as an idea, especially as he is absolutely not the perfect dad.

He isn’t a perfect dad, he’s a perfect-for-Veronica dad. He’s a narrative device, nothing more.
