Having a parent who so staunchly loves, respects, and accepts you is definitely a wonderful thing, and I'm sorry you don't have that, OP. One of my parents is that for me, while the other very much isn't, and I'm so grateful for the one who is. (My life is still a mess and I'm still pretty fucked up, though, FWIW. Having a loving, accepting parent is not enough to prevent a person from failing at life.)
