Can't even tell what you're talking about, OP, because the wall of text makes it impossible to read the cover.

I’m the opposite! I can’t read the secret but I can read the title (I think). I’m pretty sure it’s The Angel of Indian Lake.

Transcript – The Angel of Indian Lake by Stephen Graham Jones

I dislike his writing and I hated this series. I read all 3 books to give it a chance, even though I disliked his other work I read. The main character is just so annoying to me. Secret because everyone I know who read him loves his work and I only see praise for him online too. To me he writes girls very much from a guy’s pov. I also think he wrote from that pov to make the series popular.

Bonus secrets – 1. He described Sidney Prescott from Scream as *all brawn* which is so factually incorrect and makes me think he has disdain for girls showing emotion. 2. I see the same people who heap praise on him for writing girls (not women) say it’s weird that Grady Hendrix writes as women. But it’s a double standard and annoying too.

I haven't read that particular series. So far he's been hit or miss for me-- Night of the Mannequin I didn't think was *bad* but I didn't love it. Meanwhile, I DID love The Only Good Indians and thought he nailed the teen girl protagonist in that once we moved into her POV, and I adored her.

I'll have to see where this one falls for me-- I get you on your complaint about his description of Sidney Prescott, though.

I also agree it's weird and annoying that people will praise Stephen Graham Jones for writing girls but malign Grady Hendrix for writing women (and girls)-- again, what I have read of his female protagonists I have loved! But I haven't read every book yet.

Also thank you for the transcript.

Trust your instincts OP! That's a lot of words ypu read for something that you knew probably might not be your thing. I'd say keep an eye out for some of these reviewers and what they find interesting in women and use that as a radar for what not to read!

I have not read any of his books but I have met him, and he was very pleasant. I really need to pick up his stuff.

I'm with you. His name kept popping up in my reading circles, so I finally read My Heart is a Chainsaw and hated it. The main character was so insufferable and unrealistic, and I felt like the pop culture references were more important to SGJ than an actual plot
