I don't think Bridgerton is high-brow by any means and I like it for what it is.

But my god am I sick of people across fandom who insist that we need to 'acknowledge that it's trash' when we're talking about the show or our enjoyment of it. Especially when those same people are into Star Wars or the MCU which are also trashy fun.

Curiously media aimed at men never gets this 'you need to Understand that what you like is actually bad' in order to simply enjoy it. Funny that.

The final closure of MTV was a lot more of an emotional gut punch to me than I would've expected.

"I want my MTV!"

Clockwise starting from left: Keira Knightley as outraged Elizabeth Bennet from P&P 2005, Caroline Bingley and Louisa Hurst from P&P 1995, Lady Catherine de Bourgh and her daughter Anne from P&P 1995 and the caption: "I am most seriously displeased. Drive on!"

While I delight in all the sass and fury about the new Wuthering Heights adaptation, I'm also enjoying the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Not because the recent teaser trailer looks good because it doesn't.

But because this might finally unite the Pride and Prejudice 1995 and the Pride and Prejudice 2005 fans against a common enemy!

Can't even tell what you're talking about, OP, because the wall of text makes it impossible to read the cover.

I saw the previous secret for it, but I didn't realize it shut down. That does make me a little sad tbh, too.

Love the image. Disagree with the secret.

I’m the opposite! I can’t read the secret but I can read the title (I think). I’m pretty sure it’s The Angel of Indian Lake.

It wasn’t. They shut down the extra channels in the UK and Ireland. In the rest of the world there is no change and in the UK and Ireland they still have the original MTV which is a reality show channel and has been for many, many years.

Eh... I think the latter part is not really on fandom and more due to the fact that trash media for men acknowledges readily and shamelessly that its IS trash, by itself, before anyone has to.

The whole era of penny dreadfuls, pulp comics, and pulp fiction was literally based around the idea of being cheap and low quality. Whereas you wouldn't get romance novels calling themselves cheapo trashtasy because they like to pretend to be more than that and take being called a bodice-ripper as an insult, mostly. Titillating-anything for men is way more shamelessly pitched and much less 'politely' veiled than titillating-anything for women in general

Gee how original. Nobody who prefers shows without sex scenes or complains about certain shows sex scenes has ever been called a prude before. Wild.

Neither Star Wars nor the MCU is primarily aimed at men. I think if I had to pick a better example, I'd say the Fast&The Furious movies fit the bill much better and they (and other male centered media) get called trashy plenty. Difference is they don't really pretend not to be.

Come to think of it, if we're actually talking about the sub category of smutty trash in particular, I can't even think of a single example of a similar show like Bridgerton aimed primarily at straight men. So on the same level, there isn't actually anything to compare.

I dislike his writing and I hated this series. I read all 3 books to give it a chance, even though I disliked his other work I read. The main character is just so annoying to me. Secret because everyone I know who read him loves his work and I only see praise for him online too. To me he writes girls very much from a guy’s pov. I also think he wrote from that pov to make the series popular.

Bonus secrets – 1. He described Sidney Prescott from Scream as *all brawn* which is so factually incorrect and makes me think he has disdain for girls showing emotion. 2. I see the same people who heap praise on him for writing girls (not women) say it’s weird that Grady Hendrix writes as women. But it’s a double standard and annoying too.

Yeah, most action movies don't pretend to be anything more than what they are, a 1.5 hour romp full of guns or people punching each other. The ones that do try to be more than that and fail get laughed at.

"You know Jason Statham plays Jason Statham in every Jason Statham movie?" Yes, duh. That's why I'm watching it.
