Re: Have you ever dealt with fandom antis?

I have never once seen them in the wild, only people bitching and whining about "antis".

Compared to other continents, this one doesn't have as many islands as you'd think it ought to.

Huh. There are not a lot of countries, when you think about it, whose only coastline is a southern coastline.

East or west coastlines are far more common.

Re: Doctor, Dentist, Hospital?

Aw man, that really sucks. I was rejected for government aid recently, but that was more on me being unable to put into words my struggles and, uh, the fact I think they genuinely lost 90% of my history after my family doc went awol, but I do know people who are on disability and they agree. They're given too little to live and the whole thing is a mess.

It seems as if I'm in a similar boat as you when it comes to dentists though. They even said I must not develop much tartar or plaque because my teeth are surprisingly not that bad! I was very happy to hear that!

Very true with hospitals. I think I initially got used to them due to breaking my arm and being forgotten at my first visit, and having to visit one for years in order to see a doc in my youth.

I generally feel the same way. I get nervous in the moment, but overall I know it's better to go than to avoid. I'm lucky too, where I found a dentist who is super nice, but they don't try to talk to me with their hands in my mouth and basically get the job done.

What? That's terrible! The name alone is extra bad, but being judgmental like that is just not good. Those two drugs are basically interchangeable as it is, right. I'm sorry that happened to you, especially in with such a serious exam as that.

My mom HATES the dentist. She will use every excuse in the book to avoid going. She even gets nervous just hearing about anyone else going to an appointment.

Same. I get so nervous on the day and when waiting, but overall I'm not really scared when I'm there and in front of the PHD.

Re: Doctor, Dentist, Hospital?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-11 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, making the appointments are the worst for me. I have to reschedule the appointment I just made with my dentist too, which is giving me all kinds of anxiety. I want to wait to do it so they forget I just made it, but waiting just makes it worse all the same. I'm good while I'm there, but any time around that- nope.

Wait that's just strange. Are you given dentists or do you go to a general practice? The dentist I go to now has a few people, but, well I haven't been there long enough to know the fall off, but they generally stay the same. I'm guessing your latest few were a little rough around the edges?

Re: Doctor, Dentist, Hospital?

I think I got super lucky with my family doctor. Well, after my last one just up and vanished, leaving my entire medical history potentially missing at that. But, I have a young guy who actively seems to care now. I made a joke that he just hasn't been beaten down by the scrum of society yet, but it might actually be a fear I have that I'm just waiting to happen...
tbh, I don't mind labs and referrals so long as they result in a test or a real conversation. I'm a bit of the opposite where I think I'm just waiting for them to tell me what is actually wrong with me, lol.

Re: Doctor, Dentist, Hospital?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-11 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oof, that's rough. I don't agree with my doctor at times, but I am definitely lucky that I haven't had to deal with that kind of bullshit.

Re: Doctor, Dentist, Hospital?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-11 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
I should definitely try that. As much as I'd like to be a hardskinned badass, I really am just a whimp who can barely handle a hangnail. I'll take anything and everything short of being knocked out, please!

That sucks though. I'm not sure how it works where you are, but I live by a college that teaches dentistry. They offer appointments as a means to teach which might be worth it to look into if you have something similar in your area?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-11 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
No. There was generally a place for most people, and if you couldn't find one that fit, you could make a comm of your own. Don't be so cagey.

You must not actually be in fandom, then. There have even been antis on FS, you're lucky you always missed them.

LOL really Okay sure i believe you.

I've seen them on twitter/x before I left. I've found myself added to their "gross people to block" lists....I even occasionally see their shit takes on tumblr. They're not hard to find

My experience is that between then and now its just shifts in views. People were shitty in different ways about different things.

I find it much easier to deal with "LOL your fic is stupid and cringe and I'm going to laugh at you" versus "you shouldn't be writing that. I looked back at your ships and OMG you were in THAT fandom? HEY EVERYBODY THIS PERSON DREW ART FOR A BAD SHIP THEY'RE PROBABLY A PEDO"

I can deal with both yes. But some of the bullying in fandom then versus now - Based on things I've witnessed and seen - it's more pointed and more vicious now. You used to have people who would just laugh at you or call your OC a Mary Sue. Now you have people who would gleefully hope for your suicide if they think you deserve it.

I feel so bad for Gumshoos because the poor thing looks just like his fursona. I remember when the Alola region first came out when this clown was running and I thought.

What an unfortunate coincidence. I really wanted to like this line too, because yungoos has a cute design.

Purugly did NOT deserve that slander, I love this kitty cat a lot more than I did in 2006

I know right. Purugly just looks very idk 'sassy queen' .

Then you are either very lucky, very sheltered in terms of fandom or an anti yourself.

Re: Have you ever dealt with fandom antis?

I'm too low-key to get antis myself but I absolutely block each and every one of them if I come across them in the comments of creators I follow or in the tags.

Exactly!

As someone who genetically has missing teeth and all the painful problems that has caused, I just don't understand this.

Bills

I'm not afraid of any, though they do cause anxiety, I just avoid them all because of the cost.
