Yes. Got some messages at some point on Tumblr from someone who was horrified at a Tolkien fan liking villains and shipping them. Just ignored them.

Honestly, the first time, I was caught off-guard by how unhinged they were, just shamelessly shrieking and flailing about how ~*~immoral~*~ and ~*~illegal~*~ that certain ships would be in real life that I stammered some reply about not justifying a real life situation. In retrospect, that didn't do me any favors because that shit isn't even real, and arguing as if it were is just ridiculous.

These days I just shut it down or just block them.

I ignore it totally. Yes, it gets really annoying sometimes, but I just don't read or respond to that type of thing.

Started cultivating my own small groups of fandom friends tbh. A lot of anti arguments used to appeal to me (I have pretty bad PTSD and can fall into black and white thinking, the idea that stuff that triggered me could actually be dangerous "made sense" on a purely emotional level) but as time wore on in those fandom circles I realized how judgy and obsessive everyone was about policing each other, and I started seriously questioning whether the anti views made any sense at all. I never was one to harass people over their ships anyway, just block and focus on what I liked instead, so the hatereading and harassment I was seeing, and the obsessive standards for shipping (calling out age gaps... between adults... where the younger person is in their 30s??!!) weirded me out. I took a break from fandom to work on my mental health (doing a lot better now, idgaf what anyone ships in a fictional story LOL) and when I came back I stuck to smaller groups for the most part.

I have never once seen them in the wild, only people bitching and whining about "antis".

You must not actually be in fandom, then. There have even been antis on FS, you're lucky you always missed them.

I've seen them on twitter/x before I left. I've found myself added to their "gross people to block" lists....I even occasionally see their shit takes on tumblr. They're not hard to find

I'm too low-key to get antis myself but I absolutely block each and every one of them if I come across them in the comments of creators I follow or in the tags.
