they're often used interchangeably as the two most common OTC painkillers and fever reducers, but they really SHOULDN'T be - they have different mechanisms and very different side effects and risk profiles for overuse/overdose, and for a specific person/issue one may be much better than the other

in this case the doctor is absolutely a dick, but that's because he was condescending instead of helpful and and informative, not because the differences aren't worth learning
