she said female soldiers weren't "real women", (whatever that means)

Do you have a source for this? I’ve never heard that before and Google isn’t turning up anything but the Welcome Home Heroes show.

...I don't think I've ever encountered this.

Count yourself lucky.

Echoing previous anon. The military fanatics are scary and twisted. Everything is about “the soldiers” but they’re very talk the talk about it and consistently vote for the people whose policies erode support for soldiers and veterans. The VA is quite possibly the most bloated bureaucracy in the country and accessing benefits is not only difficult but sometimes impossible. VA disability benefits were scaled back last year as part of DOGE but the “what about the soldiers!!!11!” people don’t know or don’t care.

IME, it's a fairly common sentiment in the U.S. People care deeply about the military, veterans, etc. in theory, and it's an easy thing to weaponize because nobody is supposed to not care about the military. It's basically just like a "... won't anyone think of the children????"

(Anonymous) 2026-03-14 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Just read the messages under any story reporting on a celeb death or tragedy. And it's not just the military they shriek over, it's anything from the poor to the children to the homeless. And even if they can't think of a specific subject, they'll just complain that there are more important things to report on. Of course one celeb death doesn't outweigh, say, the many issues vets face. But like OP said, these dipshits tend not to care about whatever group they're propping up, much less do anything meaningful for them.

I also think that's silly because like... of course it's not the most important thing in the world that a celebrity has died... but the news isn't limited to only posting one thing. They can post however many articles they need/want to in a day. They can churn articles out all day long if it's a big news day. If you don't care, just scroll on past.

Kind of a funny time for this sentiment, at least in the US, because now the government and media are busily downplaying soldiers' deaths too.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-14 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Right?

Like, I'd argue I care a lot more about the soldiers' deaths than the US military in that I am against sending them to die in the first place. The government will trot them out if they think they can spin it for support and brush them under the rug if they fear it will look bad.

I haven't actually seen this, but I doubt they don't actually care? Seems like a strange topic to choose if they just want to complain/hate the celebrity?
