Finished the keyboard 🥳but had a bad night's sleep and did *something* to my back, so I'll probably take it easy... and speculate on new things to build or alter (I got the silly 3-key macropad from Target and have learned interesting things about it. THEORETICALLY it's reprogrammable!).

That is so cool! How did you build it? If you mentioned the project before I missed it but I’m happy to go back and spare you retyping it all.

It's a kit from a company called CannonKeys.

(You'd be surprised how hard it is to find kits that aren't 60% or 75%. This keyboard lives on my desk-- it doesn't have to be small!)

I made my life... more interesting by soldering tiny sockets into the PCB so that the key switches would be hot-swappable. Just read the dimensions from where I ordered them (I used the 0305 ones, as they were the largest)... and then consider that I had to solder close to 200 of those little buggers into place! But short-term obnoxiousness may be worth it for long-term flexibility and repairability.

That is so freaking cool! I feel ya on the making it harder for yourself but honestly it’s usually more cost effective and less time consuming to just go big on a project like this instead of do one the “right” way and then have to do another the way you wanted the first one to turn out.
