(Anonymous) 2026-03-14 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)Ari Aster's movies have an element of absurdist comedy for me, I laughed at some of the really fucked up scenes of Hereditary. Like something truly horrible is happening, but he captures an odd or amusing detail, and sometimes that hits me as funny. Something about the balance of terror and absurdity gets me. I can see why you reacted how you did. That's different than laughing at the subject matter involved though and I don't think people should be treating the rape scene in Midsommar as a joke.
