I am kind of retroactively annoyed at the people here who say "teehee surprise trans is NOT a thing because I'VE never seen it in MY fandom" while I just got a new chapter notification for a fic I followed that just turned into surprise trans slop after being untagged for all previous chapters. Fuck people who do this. I would have preferred not to waste my time on this. Shit like this seriously turns me off reading unfinished fic.

Stuff like that makes me thankful I'm not into any ships and my few fandoms haven't attracted longfic. (Or, if one does, it's heavily AU and involves OCs.)
I feel like there's no winning when talking about this. I'm not opposed to trans headcanons or trans fic, but I want to *know* if it's there, especially if there's sex.
One of my older fandoms had an F/F rarepair with untagged surprise dick and it kind of triggered a lot of sexuality complexes I had. I considered commenting about how it's really good but *that one detail* should be tagged so people who actively want trans![name] can find it, but I didn't want to risk getting dogpiled or called transphobic.

Defensive people that immediately jump to the wildest possible interpretations of things are so exhausting. Can't do anything but disengage because they get even more defensive if you suggest that perhaps they're overreacting when they so very clearly are.

Related, because it's the most commonly overreacted-to: people that don't understand "I" statements, whether it's using them or comprehending them.
