If you could ban one topic of discussion off the internet worldwide, what do you ban?

Ban as in make illegal, assume outright criminal stuff is already technically banned

(Anonymous) 2026-03-15 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing. There's no way any kind of topic ban off the entire internet doesn't backfire in some horrible way for someone.

Ban

(Anonymous) 2026-03-15 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
By ban if you mean magically disappear, it wouod be kind of hilarious if I chose porn. Just because it is a huge part of the internet it wouod be such a drastic change.

lol, I'd second that just for the chaos.

Harry Potter.

cis men's thoughts about abortion. would be happy to never have to see those again.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-16 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Probably nothing. People would always find a way around it, or would discuss it offline. Depending on the topic, that may not necessarily be a good thing. Also censorship is ass.

The Buffy series was cancelled

Ngl I'm kind of happy. Sad for all those that were excited, but this is one that I could not see going well.

I just heard that, too. Wonder why, though.

Rumor I read is that Hulu hated the pilot they shot and the people involved didn't like their suggestions for change so everyone just passed on it.

Honestly I think this is a good thing. Audiences are already showing signs of nostalgia fatigue. And we’ve time and again that decades later sequels and reboots are more likely to harm sentiment towards a franchise than help it (unless it’s children’s entertainment). In the age of streaming, juggernauts of their times are earning above and beyond what traditional syndication allowed and an underwhelming sequel or reboot will kill those viewer hours.

Re: The Buffy series was cancelled

(Anonymous) 2026-03-15 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, to me there's a big difference between a property that really NEEDS a sequel/prequel/reboot and one that's just trying to milk the popularity.

Like, I can think of some things that wrapped up all of their plot threads and character arcs nicely. I don't want to see sequels for those because they don't need them. But there are other things that had stuff left unanswered or vague in ways that left me wanting more, so those I'd be all in favor of sequels for if it means they would address the things left hanging at the end of the original.

Relearned how to torrent things

Used to be a master at it a decade ago.

Nice. Every so often I tell myself I’ll get all that set up again and learn the new ropes, but I haven’t done it yet.

Any recommendations? I keep hearing that r/piracy is the place to start.

Use this. https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/wiki/megathread/

Downloaded qbittorrent. Used Bitsearch to find movies.

Oh nice! I’m another that used to be a master at it but couldn’t even tell you the first thing about it these days. But I have been meaning to look into it because streaming got so expensive and we just weren’t watching enough to justify the cost. But there are some things I’m interested to see!

Yeah, I wanted to watch that movie Good Boy (the one with the dog).

Pillion (2026)

[personal profile] iff_and_xor 2026-03-15 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Did anyone else see it? Or think about seeing it?

It’s been popping up back up in my mind every so often over the last few weeks, I guess today it was thanks to Secret #5.

I'm going back and forth on it, mostly because I still have a hard time not seeing Dudley Dursley when I see Harry Melling.

Admittedly, I’ve watched a few of the HP movies, but not all, so maybe I found it easier to accept him as this character. Colin is incredibly different from Dudley personality-wise in just about every way, but Harry Melling also looks so different to me these days.

Yep, seen it twice. It's very funny, heartbreaking, and Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters is in a small role! I never watched more than 2 HP films so the main character did not remind me of those films.

Oh yeah and there is a lot of sex. Good movie!

I'm going to see it. I'm a huge Alexander Skarsgård fan (lust is the reason!)
