Do you really not understand how the comment about TS is relevant to the article?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-15 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
There is very, very little overlap between people who would read an article about the Pokemon franchise and people who give a shit about Taylor Swift.

Besides which, that particular point has been made a bajillion times already... so what, exactly, is the intended purpose of making it again here?

DA

"There is very, very little overlap between people who would read an article about the Pokemon franchise and people who give a shit about Taylor Swift."

All else aside, I'm confused why you'd think this? Are both those things not huge millennial fanbases?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-15 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, in the same way that Destiel and Swan Queen are also both huge millenial fanbases.

Which is to say, one has a huge millennial fanbase of people who ship boyslash and the other has a huge millenial fanbase of people who ship femslash.

Which is also to say, there is very, very little overlap between the two, save they're approximately the same age and fannish.

DA but they’re not TS fans. It isn’t like the articles would only be visible to Pokémon fans, it isn’t like Pokémon fans are incapable of being aware of real world issues. Also, this isn’t generation locked. My father is Silent Generation AND he voted for Trump and even he’s aware that Taylor Swift is under fire from the general public for not objecting to the administration’s use of her music. The comment on the article reads the exact same as “release the files” to me; constant pressure on something the public cares about but the people involved want to sweep under the rug.

No-one's saying Pokemon fans wouldn't be aware of real-world issues, or aware of the backlash Swift has received. They're just not likely to be the kind of people who would be interested random comments about Taylor Swift on an article about the thing they are interested in, and which had absolutely nothing to do with her whatsoever.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-15 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do you think it’s Pokémon fans reading the article instead of the much larger demographic of people who are trying to keep up with all the fuckery of the Trump administration. Especially on social media since the algorithm is gonna put that article in front of them based on their engagement with other political articles.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-15 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I just don't understand why you think there's almost no overlap. Plenty of Pokemon fans I know like Taylor Swift.

???

Dude, even leaving aside that the story in that link is primarily about MAGA fuckery and not Pokemon the Fandom, on what planet is there "little to no overlap" between people who participate in two of the largest franchises of their generation? Hate to break it to you, but an awful lot of people are interested in more than one popular thing.

I'm a millennial Pokemon fan with a bunch of other millennial friends who are Pokemon fans. None of us particularly care about Taylor Swift beyond some casual enjoyment of her more widely-played songs. I get almost all my information about her from the shit that keeps coming up about her on FS. "Taylor Swift should care about MAGA using Pokemon because she and Pokemon are both things millennials like" is a super weird take.

The take's more that it would be great if Taylor Swift would take a page out of Pokemon's book and also object to MAGA using her music in their promotional videos.

""Taylor Swift should care about MAGA using Pokemon because she and Pokemon are both things millennials like" is a super weird take."

Nobody said this though? I certainly didn't. Someone claimed "there's very little overlap between the Taylor Swift and Pokemon fandoms" which seems untrue to me, that's all.

Nothing was said about MAGA at all.

Not sure why you think Taylor Swift has a huge millennial fanbase? Like, just speaking from my own workplace, but those of us in the millennial bracket might casually enjoy some of her songs but the big, serious fans are the younger Gen Zers.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-16 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, statistically Millennials are the most likely to be her fans. Lots of sources show it, but here's one for example.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/marisadellatto/2023/03/14/more-than-half-of-us-adults-say-theyre-taylor-swift-fans-survey-finds/

"Some 45% of avid fans are millennials, people between the ages of 27 and 42, while 23% are baby boomers, 21% are Gen Xers and just 11% are members of Gen Z—those 26 and under."

Keep in mind this was 2023 so that average age is now 30. But yeah, Swift being A Millennial Thing is pretty well known.
