Broadly, I'm ambivalent about fanon that diverges too far from canon; sometimes I think it's apt or interesting, but a lot of times I bounce off hard. But guaranteed, the more a particular divergent fanon entrenches itself in a particular community, the more grating I find it—maybe it's the contrarian in me. But combine this with the sanctimonious "fandom as praxis" crowd*, and I'm quickly looking for the exit.

*The kinds of people whose fanons trend reactionary and racist, etc, are objectively worse—but I curate my timeline so well that I've very rarely ever seen one first-hand, so they aren't relevant lol.
