I have a hard time rooting for Batman these days. People complain about Superman being overpowered. But Batman is just a wealthy dude with trauma using his wealth to work out his trauma. The fact that he does some good things with it doesn't change him being a rich dude vigilante. That's frankly a little scary.

I see the altruistic billionaire trope as one more suspension of disbelief necessary to enjoy comics. Like random lightning bolts and chemicals giving people powers, child sidekicks being good parenting, and aliens evolving to look exactly like humans and earth animals.

What are some magical girl shows that have done this besides Madoka?* I see the "Edgy magical girls are overdone" complaint so much but I only see more Madoka spinoffs, not new series copying it.

*Which post-Madoka edgy series, I should add, because that device has been used even in some of the classic, for-girls series that everyone says are the good, happy ones that Madoka ruined the genre for. (Not always with the cute mascot necessarily,but it's a pretty normal thing for the magical girls to be pawns in someone's game and not told the full story until they can't turn back.)

I think there's room for a lot of kinds of dark magical girl shows. Madoka, Yuki Yuna, and Magical Girl Raising Project (to name three that I enjoyed) all tackled the concept of 'the girls are being used/duped' in very different ways.

I read book 8 of Dungeon Crawler Carl on Patreon and it is pure filler. I’m kinda half hoping it’s a joke on the author’s part and in May we’ll get the real book. But I know that isn’t the case and instead he was so busy with his tour and writing other things that he churned out garbage. It’s disappointing but the real secret is that I’m annoyed at the fans eating it up.

Sometimes I feel americans in general are prudes.

I don't mean just conservatives for what happens to be right wing in the US. When I see how fandom circles have developed these last years, especially antis, I can't help but think americans have an aversion towards sex and pleasure.

I'm all for people viewing characters how they want in fandom: different skin-tones, different weights, etc because for the most part it's harmless experimentation* and I like to see different interpretations. It's fun!

But it drives me up the wall when people are so neck deep in their fanon that they not only forget it's not canon, but will insult those who are drawing/writing the characters as their canon selves as if they're doing something morally wrong.

We're all having fun here and it is in fact fine if people want to make art based on how the characters are in canon and not fanon. No one is right or wrong for doing either.

(*I am aware that this can get racist/fatphobic depending on context but most of the time I see characters changed it's to be more inclusive not less).
