I honestly think Star Trek (and Star Wars and Doctor Who) fans these days just want to hate anything new. I didn't love Discovery, though I didn't loath it. I get some of the hate. But Starfleet Academy is good. Genuinely good. Up to par with old Trek good. I think some people either didn't watch or only watched the first episode.

B!S: It took TNG 3 seasons to get good. 1 and 2 were terrible.

Prodigy and Lower Decks are well-loved in the fandom. SFA isn't bad, though the teen angst (which Prodigy characters managed to avoid) and the prank wars were dreadfully tedious.

But is it only me who finds the sound quality in SFA isn't great?

I'd agree but then there was all the tongue-bathing for Strange New Worlds, which was frankly not good but did have a white guy in charge. So I think racism and sexism are certainly part of it. But yeah, Starfleet Academy is extremely good despite the clunky first episode.

I've enjoyed Strange New World for the most part. It isn't amazing, but it is fun and does feel like Trek. Also enjoying Academy, though.

SNW is the only new Trek I’ve seen that I enjoyed because it felt like Trek. After reading this thread, I think I have to check out Academy!

Episode 1 sets things up but isn't really representative. Give it at least 2 episodes.

I think a lot of Trek fans forget just how bad seasons 1 and 2 of TNG actually were. They were so fucking bad.

I wonder how much of that attitude is about advancing age and feeling old.

Not liking something new because it’s “bad” makes you a discerning fan. Not liking something new because you’re getting more set in your ways and less open to new things and less in step with more modern trends… that just makes you old.
