Once people started believing JK Rowling was a good writer or in the same league as Ursula K. Le Guin, GRRM, or even Tolkien, I realized two things: most readers from that era hadn't read enough to know what great or even good literature is, and that low-tier, low-effort books like Fourth Wing becoming the norm were inevitable.

My only surprise is that The Age of Scorpius didn't somehow manage to become a hit. Though I suspect that if the author had put in more than the bare minimum effort editing their slop, we'd have yet another piece of garbage affecting the book market for a decade.

Yeah, it's honestly shocking that that one didn't become a NYT bestseller too.
