Great question! AND YES THOSE ALSO SUCK (Cirroc Lofton gets a pass for reprising a role he was known for). The weirder thing about the episode is NOT having Avery Brooks onscreen when it is all about his character. What's much more irritating is giving interesting bit parts to people who are there as some kind of marketing gimmick. And if you're gonna do that, well shit--let's get some real synergy going. How about a famous cricketer? An actor well known in their home country getting a bump here? Who can get a cameo to boost another arm of the conglomerate? Star Trek isn't above that. But it's this specific corporate imposition of what counts as "fan culture" and this shit has me rereading Neil Postman's "Amusing Ourselves To Death"
