Its kinda weird and frustrating because at the same time i dislike others infantalizing me in certain ways, but thats more in relation to my being autistic. Still...*shrug*. Its weird. It feels like me saying "Only I can infantalize myself"

Also there was a while in childhood when there was a huge gap between my physical maturity and my emotional/mental maturity. That shit sticks with you, especially if it started in childhood.
I guess thats a factor

(Anonymous) 2026-03-22 07:37 am (UTC)(link)And I totally get you about hating being infantilized, which can seem to conflict with referring to myself as a girl. I think I've decided I'm a proponent of the idea that "girl" and "woman" should both be neutral options (when applied to oneself) that people of any age should feel free to choose from. If an eighty-year-old woman feels like a girl, then I am very in favor of her thinking of and referring to herself as a girl, I love that for her, and fuck anyone who wants to tell her it's invalid or problematic, you know?
The reason this secret is specifically about adult male characters still being "boys" in my mind is because conceptualizing adult men in that way feels way less common than conceptualizing grown women as "girls." I very much do both, but one feels basically normative while the other feels like its going against the grain. #BecauseSexism
