Google sucks and people are assholes when you ask for help on Reddit, Discord, etc

I know this has been gone over ad nauseam, but I am so tired of how terrible Google has gotten at finding answers. I always Google search and *most of the time* I will find my answer, but sometimes I don't find it. Or the answer is on a Reddit thread, and there are 9 million comments thanking them... but the post has been deleted. Then if you go and ask the question yourself you either get totally ignored, or rude answers. I always write out "I searched on Google and tried XYZ" so people know I'm not just lazy and/or an idiot, but that usually means that instead of getting dismissive "Google it" answers, I just get totally ignored.

Hoy boy do I feel this. Your frustration is valid!

People can be such dicks! I’m sorry :( Someone asked something in a sub I’m super active in and when I answered they basically apologized and said they had googled. I wasn’t really sure why tbh but when I switched to all comments they had a thread about getting downvoted, but the post had hundreds of upvotes. It was really, really weird. There weren’t any deleted comments either although one asshole said if they’d searched the sub, they would have found the answer. Which was false; the answer came from an AMA on another sub. But most questions that get asked in the sub COULD be answered by searching the sub and yet no one is a dick to those people. The sub has had a huge influx of people recently and this weekend all the posts are low quality, mostly questions that have been asked within the last 15-20 posts. So the mods are probably going to have to start pruning some of the content.

It's always pissed me off when people just go "JUST GOOGLE IT!" even before all the AI and enshittification. IT'S CALLED A GODDAMN CONVERSATION, MAYBE TRY IT SOME TIME, YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY CONNECT WITH AN ACTUAL HUMAN ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD.

Sorry, guess that was a rant of my own, and not directed at you. Google definitely sucks harder now but I guess the upside is that there's more justification in pushing back against it. And it seems diehard fans are also finding out how much it sucks, hah.

The terrible recent variation on this I've seen lately is when people post to communities asking for advice from others who have been through similar issues, and they get replies like, "I asked ChatGPT and it said..." FFS. If the OP wanted AI advice they would have done it themselves. They asked the comm for a reason.
