I could imagine a Buffy sequel/continuation that would have been good. New generations of slayers, old characters settled into some kind of retirement, a look at how the world of slayers and watchers has changed. Of course, whether that was likely to actually happen is another thing.

But I struggle to imagine a Firefly continuation that would excite me. Even if it’s an animated prequel, which seems like a pair of comparatively good choices, I’m just not so interested in the world or the characters anymore, I guess.

+1, I can imagine a Buffy continuation pretty easily, and it definitely has more to say. Firefly? No.
