The canon compliance is that it very obviously takes place at Hogwarts. Like, sure, there are different magic school canons and all. But the character constellation coupled with the setting is pretty unmistakable and rewriting it in a way that doesn't scream "look, Hogwarts setting fanfic!" seems a bit tricky or at least tedious to me.
