Was it a cultural wide thing? I just know the US had the Jim Criw laws and segregation all sorts of fucked up baked in racism that made it particularly notable. I should go and look into the history of segregation in other countries. Off to dive down a rabbit hole!

It wasn’t segregation to the level that it was in the US, but there was violence against black people here and there was and is still the sense of ‘other’ and ‘not British enough’ see: white, that the racists in this country get angry over. It’s also gotten louder again over the last few years with our far right shitheads gaining traction online by deliberately misinterpreting things or outright lying to rile up the racist shitheads in this country into being loud again.

Groups like the National Front were a big one back in the day.
