Back in my day, I spent hours writing out conversations between me and my favorite characters, especially when I was feeling down, so I do understand the urge to do so. It really did help me safer and more supported, even if it was just a fantasy.

However, I was still doing the work of it. It was my imagination and emotions navigating the "conversation", and while that's obviously more difficult to do, it meant that in addition to getting better at writing dialogue and emotion in general, I was exercising the parts of my brain that analyzed my own emotions. I was "training" myself, through a silly comfort exercise, to take care of myself, self-soothe, and organize my most difficult thoughts. I can't help but to think that outsourcing that exercise, especially with a program that's designed to agree with you so that you get the dopamine hit to keep using it, takes away a huge part of the real benefits it can bring in the long run.

This is very well put and helped solidify some vague thoughts I was having, so thank you.
