TBF, Netflix is betting on One Piece being their new Stranger Things. And hoping Chopper can be their Baby Yoda. So he had to look as cute as possible.

I don't know what it is but this "kinda realistic but still kinda cartoony" style of CGI critters looks so extremely offputting to me. I felt the same way about most of the pokemon in Detective Pikachu which pretty much everyone thought looked great. The Sonic characters are more blatantly cartoony and look fine. But that "not quite either" style just sits strongly in the middle of uncanny valley for me.
