I've been trying to earn a second degree in a different field, and y'all, the children are not okay.

I'm in classes with 18-22 year olds. Small liberal arts college. They use AI for everything. Almost zero reading comprehension skills. Very limited attention spans. They don't take notes. I'm not sure they know how. I shudder to think what community colleges must look like.

Professors are either clueless or have just given up. I'm in the lower quartile in my classes because I don't use AI or cheat on unproctored online tests. I've even wondered if profs are using AI to generate tests and assignments.

It feels like we are in a race to the bottom in education, and it's hitting higher ed now. It feels like a wasted effort to even attempt critical thought. Employers don't really want critical thought, either, do they? They want people who can plug everything into AI, I guess.

Ugh. That sucks. I honestly don't know anymore. Things like this make me worry for the younger generation, but then again the older generation has completely fucked up the world. I guess the younger ones are just going to keep fucking it up, just in different ways.

I think it's more a 40-year trajectory of capital consolidation than "the old people fucked us up!" Not a whole bunch of boomer billionaires running around out there.

NB4 yes, boomers vote, doesn't matter when the billionaires own the government.

I have a junior at my job that I've been training (we wfh). I give him the procedures of what we're going to be working on and tell him to make sure to take notes so if the procedures need updating or clarification the work is basically already done.

He took notes in a txt. Just one txt doc. All the notes. For all the procedures (30+). One txt doc..... I just....I.....sigh.
