I agree entirely but add as a former art school dropout, the one thing I could never stand was the Establishment never being willing to own up to the fact that all art is subjective. Being able to not recognize genius was always the viewer's crap taste, not the art having the potential of being crap in someone's eyes.

Then again, knowing that the giant solid color canvas type shit is usually money laundering and not art has made me pretty disillusioned for gallery art to begin with.

The art establishment won't admit that because then they'd also have to admit that when it comes to quite a lot of "artist's" output, the only reason it's called "inspired" instead of "pretentious, yet crap" is that those artists are rich and have connections in the art world. Whereas the output of many artists whose work is genuinely inspired is considered valueless and unworthy of attention because they aren't rich and they don't have connections in the art world. The art establishment is just as elitist and wealth/class based as any other establishment. It just deludes itself into believing that it deserves to be elitist because it's high on its own supply.

I agree. Very well-said.
